Laundry Solutions Simplified

I live in a very rural area where we are on a well and septic system. I am a city girl, New Jersey, to be exact, and we were on city water and sewer. I never realized the difficulty, until recently, did not realize how well water can wreak havoc on our clothes.
When we moved on our farm 15 years ago, we purchased a new washer and dryer. Last month, the laundry drama began. The color and shirt sleeves turned orange. In addition, Captain Rick comes home with fish stuff on his clothes. ( His clothes are removed in the mud room and taken directly to the laundry…) I tried every laundry product in the store but to no luck. My search ended when an older woman in the store told me about baking soda and vinegar solution. I remember the combination of the 2 being my first science project for when you mix the 2 together, the foam up over the container. So I gave it a shot. I used 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1/2 cup baking soda to a small wash with my usual detergent. It took 3 washing to get the age-old stains and fish stuff out but it worked. I thought I would share my new-found knowledge with readers who may be experiencing the same problem. If you have any household tips, please share.
The best, always,
