Herbal Blends to Replace Salt


I am constantly coming up with ways to avoid salt from my family’s diet.  Finding inventive ideas for a healthier lifestyle does not have to cost you a lot of money at fancy health food markets.

You can sprinkle these herbal blends on chicken, fish, pork or beef.  I have added the Italian blend to  my tomato sauce and to my meatball recipes.  Please share some of your favorites with us.




Italian Blend


  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

Herbs for Pork


  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 teaspoons dried marjoram
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumiin
  • 2 teaspoons celery seed
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 3 teaspoons dried basil

Sassy Dry Rub


  • 1 teaspoon dired rosemary
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon black or white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
